“He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.'” (John 7:39)

Jesus states that anyone who believes in Him, according to Holy Scripture, will be a river of living water. In Zechariah 14:8, the prophet is speaking symbolically by the mouth of God when he states;

“And in that day, living waters will flow out of Jerusalem, half of them toward the eastern sea and the other half toward the western sea; it will be in summer as well as in winter.”

Zechariah is prophesying about the Lord’s church. The blessings are found within the walls of His divine bride.

Our Lord and Savior, in His encounter with the woman at the well, makes this statement:

(John 4:14)  but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.”

The words of John 7:37 remind us of the people who drank of the spiritual rock that followed them.

(1Cor. 10:4), the miracle commemorated in the pouring of the water from Siloam; the last words (‘shall flow rivers’) resemble more the promise of Isa. 12:3, amplified in all its parts. There is nothing out of harmony in this union of promises:

Isa. 44:3 includes both, ‘I will pour water upon him that is thirsty and floods upon the dry ground.’ This is not the first time that we have found ‘coming to Jesus’ and ‘believing in Him’ thus brought together; John 6:35. Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; the one who comes to Me will not be hungry, and the one who believes in Me will never be thirsty.”

People eat bread to satisfy physical hunger and to sustain physical life. We can satisfy spiritual hunger and sustain spiritual life only by a right relationship with Jesus Christ. No wonder he called himself the bread of life. But bread must be eaten to sustain life, and Christ must be invited into our daily walk to sustain spiritual life.

And he showed me a river of the water of life, clear as crystal, coming from the throne of God and of the Lamb,  (Rev 22:1)

Not only shall we receive what our thirst demands and be satisfied, but he shall become the source of a stream “rivers” of living waters. The water will bring life to everyone that obeys the Lord’s commands. The water flowing out of his heart will bring life wherever it comes. All this is the gift of Jesus, who is set forth as the One Source of the water of Life.
